About HKIAA

The Hong Kong Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (HKIAA) at The University of Hong Kong is a premier research hub dedicated to exploring the fundamental mysteries of the universe.

HKIAA was established in November 2025 to advance excellence across all major areas of astronomy and astrophysics – from cosmology and high-energy phenomena to planetary science and multi-messenger astronomy. The Institute currently brings together more than 50 Full, Affiliated, and Junior Members from five leading institutions across Hong Kong to form a dynamic centre for world-class research, innovation, and international collaboration.

Strategically positioned in Hong Kong, HKIAA acts as a vital bridge connecting the global scientific community with China’s rapidly growing astronomical enterprise, while fostering strong partnerships across the Greater Bay Area and beyond. Through cutting-edge discovery, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the cultivation of future scientific leaders, HKIAA aims to inspire, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to humanity’s understanding of the cosmos.
